Air frying hard-boiled eggs is a relatively new cooking method that has gained popularity due to its convenience and effectiveness. Compared to traditional stovetop boiling, I find that air frying offers quicker cooking times and more consistent results.

One of the best features of this method is how easy it is to prepare. I simply place the eggs in the air fryer basket, set the temperature and time, and let the air fryer work its magic. I don’t have to worry about overcooking or undercooking, as the air fryer always ensures even cooking.

Ingredients

Raw eggs in a white bowl.

Older eggs are typically better for hard boiling, as they have a larger air cell, making them easier to peel after cooking. Fresh eggs can be more challenging to peel due to the tighter bond between the egg whites and the shell.

Step-by-step Instructions

Raw eggs placed in air fryer basket.

Step 1: Preheat the air fryer to 245℉ for 3 minutes. Once preheated, carefully place the basket with the eggs into the air fryer. Cook the eggs in the air fryer at 245℉ for 16 minutes.

Step 2: Carefully remove the eggs from the air fryer and transfer them to a bowl of ice water. Let it cool for 5 minutes.

Step 4: Sprinkle salt and pepper and serve them or store them in a refrigerator.

Expert Tips

  • Allow the eggs to sit at room temperature for about 15-20 minutes before cooking. This helps them cook more evenly and reduces the risk of cracking.
  • If you are running out of time and use cold eggs straight from the fridge, increase the cooking time by one minute.
  • There’s no need to poke holes in the eggs before cooking them in the air fryer. They will cook perfectly without any punctures.
  • Ensure that the eggs are not overcrowded in the air fryer basket. Leave enough space for air circulation to promote even cooking.
  • If you’re unsure about doneness, crack one open to check. You can adjust the cooking time based on your preference for softer or firmer yolks.
  • If you’re making a batch for meal prep, store the peeled eggs in a sealed container with a damp paper towel to keep them fresh for up to 3 days. Unpeeled eggs can be stored in the refrigerator for up to one week.
