Christmas Tree Spinach Dip Breadsticks are one of my favorite ways to bring festive cheer to the table. There’s something so fun about combining creamy spinach dip and soft, golden breadsticks in the shape of a Christmas tree. This recipe always puts smiles on faces, making it perfect for holiday parties or cozy family dinners.

I love how simple and enjoyable these breadsticks are to make. The pull-apart design makes them ideal for sharing, and the creamy, cheesy spinach filling adds just the right touch of indulgence. Every time I serve these, they steal the show and add a little extra magic to the holiday season.

Ingredients

Ingredients placed on a grey surface.

Frozen Spinach: I like to use frozen spinach because it’s a huge time-saver. Just be sure to thaw it completely and squeeze out as much water as possible to avoid a soggy filling. If you prefer fresh spinach, you can blanch it first and drain it thoroughly before chopping.

Cheese Blend: This combination of cream cheese, mozzarella, and Parmesan creates the perfect filling. The cream cheese gives it a smooth and creamy base, mozzarella adds that lovely gooey texture, and Parmesan brings a nice, sharp flavor. Don’t forget to let the cream cheese soften to room temperature before mixing—this helps avoid lumps.

Puff Pastry Sheets: Puff pastry sheets are key to achieving flaky, buttery breadsticks. Work with the sheets while cold to ensure they puff properly during baking. Thaw just enough to make rolling and shaping easier, but avoid overhandling it to maintain the layers.

Brushed with butter.

Step 5: Twist each strip a few times to create a spiral effect resembling tree branches. In a small bowl, combine the melted butter and garlic powder. Brush this mixture over the puff pastry.

Bake the puff pastry until golden.

Step 6: Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed. Then let it cool for about 5 minutes before serving.

Expert Tips

  • Make sure the frozen spinach is fully thawed and drained to prevent excess moisture from affecting the filling. Place the spinach in a clean kitchen towel or paper towel and squeeze out as much water as possible. This step is key to keeping your breadsticks from becoming soggy.
  • Puff pastry can become tough if overworked. When handling the dough, be gentle and try not to press too hard. If the dough softens too much, pop it back in the fridge for 10-15 minutes before shaping.
  • After shaping the tree, pop the assembled breadsticks into the fridge for 10-15 minutes before baking. This helps the pastry hold its shape and puff up evenly in the oven.
  • If you have any leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.

Beyond The Holidays

These Spinach Dip Breadsticks aren’t just for the holiday season. While the tree shape is fun for Christmas, you can easily skip the festive design and shape them into traditional breadsticks or twists for any occasion. The creamy spinach dip and flaky pastry make a delicious and versatile appetizer, perfect for family dinners, game day snacks, or casual year-round get-togethers.
